What Is My Enneagram Theory Of Everything?

The Enneagram is a system that describes nine basic characters that we can choose play in human form. These characters can be placed into the spiritual hero’s journey, which describes the process by which we evolve here. My own research has shown that certain soul blueprints for incarnation are associated with certain enneatypes. Now I’d like to show how enneatypes can unify many other teachings, including the fundamental Cycle of Creation, Tree of Life, Sirian Mystery Schools and more. What is my enneagram theory of everything?

What is my enneagram theory of everything?

When we incarnate in human form, our purpose is to experience, learn and evolve and eventually master the right use of Love, Wisdom and Power. The enneagram is ideally suited to understanding our spiritual task, because it is split into the Feeling, Thinking and Doing triads that correspond to the three spiritual forces that we are learning to balance equally (below). It takes many lifetimes to do that, so we get to wear all these “costumes” more than once.

Our goal is to move around the enneagram in different lifetimes and integrate the healthy features of all nine types to become a fully balanced and higher acting person. Each enneatype is working on a particular combination of these spiritual forces, as shown by the wheel (below).

  • The primary center (pink/inner circle) is the preferred center for each type in each triad.
  • The secondary center (blue/middle circle) is the support center for each type.
  • The third center (yellow/outer circle) is the undeveloped or repressed center that each type is trying to balance with their primary center. Each type has a different balancing act!

Why does this matter?

Based on my understanding, these nine types are part of many other teachings. They can be mapped into specific locations in various systems or symbols, which means they represent universal archetypes (below):

(1) The fundamental Cycle of Creation is has six “root hexagrams” that correspond to enneatypes 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 as shown. Each gate can be expressed at three frequency levels (called shadow-gift-siddhi). This is the origin of various qualities of expression, such as Love (e.g. bliss, rapture), Wisdom (e.g. clarity, devotion) or Power (e.g. awakening, stillness).

(2) The Sirian Mystery School of the Nine Serpents described by Lyssa Royal (“The Golden Lake”) also corresponds to the 9 enneatypes. The 9 traps of the ego include the school of thought, school of emotion, school of pain, etc. (below). The school of integration of light and dark (type 9) is where we welcome all experiences without judgment or categorization. We can observe the coin on both sides without engaging with either side. Integration is the final school we graduate from.

(3) The Tree of Life (left) is another way to visualize “involution” (descension) from Gate 58-30-51-57-29-52, which correspond to enneatypes 8-7-5-1-2-4, respectively. These gates represent the third undeveloped center that each type is learning to balance with their primary center. The sequence of 1-2-4-8-7-5 is also found in the “vortex based math” (VBM) enneagram, which is like the Cycle of Creation showing the triangular relationship of types 3-9-6 (below).

(4) The most common Life Themes used by the different enneatypes (based on my studies of N=1341 people) are listed below. The four gates represent about 75% of who you are. Each of these gates may be expressed as different levels of “beingness” — meaning as fear or anger-based shadow states (when the ego or human personality is running the life) or as a higher frequency gift state (when the soul is activated) or as the highest frequency siddhi state (when self-realized).

(5) Why do the enneatypes correspond to these different systems? The answer lies in this diagram showing the “cause and effect” of all hexagrams (see How Do Hexagrams Fit Into the Cycle Of Creation? – Big Picture Questions.com). They describe all the qualities that we may express at various levels of consciousness (see “Spiritual Guide To Our Relationships“).

Final Thoughts

The purpose of this post is to summarize my own research on the enneatypes, as they relate to various other systems. As a research scientist, I’m trained to recognize patterns and analyze them to create my “theory of everything.” 😉 As a spiritual scientist, I like to look at the bigger picture while realizing that we’ll never see it all from a human perspective. Nonetheless, when you put these two sides together, you start to see a higher order in the characters used for incarnation that correspond to enneatypes as well. Those are the juicy roles our souls like to play in every lifetime!

This is a “eureka moment” for me! I don’t know of any other person, who has tried to put all these systems together in this way. The enneagram is more commonly known as a personality typing system, which has been applied to personal development, relationship dynamics, business management, spiritual growth, and inner realization in many societal settings (e.g. programs for schools, recovering addicts, prisoners, seminarians, leadership coaches, etc.).

But the enneagram pioneer Helen Palmer said the real purpose of the enneagram is to unfold levels of consciousness that are not about personality structure at all. That’s why we can have two people classified as type 1 (Reformer), who are as different as Gandhi (a higher acting “wise realist”) vs. Hitler (a lower acting “punitive avenger”). You may wonder: Is the enneatype really a personality type or an essence type?

George Gurdjieff (Fourth Way Enneagram) wrote:

Personality hides behind essence, and essence hides behind personality and they mutually screen each other. For inner growth, for work on oneself, a certain development of personality as well as a certain strength of essence are necessary.

Self-observation brings man to the realization of the necessity of self-change. Self-observation is an instrument of self-change, a means of awakening. Awakening is possible only for those who seek it and want it, for those who are ready to struggle with themselves and work on themselves for a very long time and very persistently to attain it.”

AH Hamaas (Diamond Approach to Self-Realization) said that the enneagram is really supposed to be a map of reality in all its levels with nine different facets of unity. He observed:

“The soul informed by the ego is asleep. This is why enlightenment is called awakening — your soul wakes up to what is really here. You are awake not only because you have an insight about something, but also by the fact of being the state of awakeness. You feel as if you were a light bulb.

True nature has inherent in it the drive to reveal itself in our experience. We call that dynamic force the enlightenment drive — the drive toward enlightenment, toward freedom, toward liberation, toward awakening, toward reality, toward truth, toward the genuineness and authenticity that is the truth of Being. This is a natural drive that we all have that can wake up at some point.

Enlightenment is not one definite experience for everyone. It is a free and unencumbered life of one who has recognized that their nature is the spirit itself, and that this is an endless life of discovery….life becomes a process.”
